Diana*, who is uninsured, thought she might have COVID-19 based on the symptoms she was experiencing. She went to get tested and was billed $306, which was more than she could afford. Alarmed, she reached out to PHLP. Fortunately, we knew that there is federal funding available to providers to cover COVID-19 testing for uninsured people. We contacted her provider's billing agency with information about how to bill the federal government and make use of this funding- and Diana never received another bill.
Before closing Diana's case, we screened her for Medicaid and it turned out that she was eligible. She applied for Medicaid and is awaiting the eligibility decision. PHLP's work ensured that Diana could afford the care she needed and that she knows her insurance options moving forward.
